You would think that winning a national beauty pageant would give a bride the ultimate confidence boost when shopping for her designer wedding gown. However, when former Miss USA Aaron Brady walked into Kleinfeld Bridal, she wasn’t worried about the cameras or the massive selection of haute couture bridal fashion. Instead, she was absolutely terrified of one person in her entourage: her future mother-in-law, Tina.
In an incredibly relatable and hilarious episode of Say Yes to the Dress, Aaron learned the hard way that winning a crown is easy compared to winning over a tough mother-in-law at a luxury bridal boutique.
The Pageant Queen & The Postponed Wedding
Aaron, a 26-year-old beauty queen, arrived at the exclusive bridal salon with an amazing story. She had actually postponed her luxury destination wedding for a year because she had just won the title of Miss USA.
“They can’t let you marry when you’re Miss USA, because otherwise you’d be Mrs. USA,” Aaron laughed, flashing her gorgeous diamond engagement ring. Now that her reign was ending, she was finally ready to be the bride she was supposed to be.
With a healthy wedding budget of $7,000, Aaron was looking for a specific bespoke wedding dress silhouette—something fit-and-flare or mermaid. However, she knew that finding her dream wedding ceremony look hinged entirely on her entourage, specifically her future mother-in-law. “I’m most nervous to hear from my mother-in-law. She will be the first person to be like, ‘you know what… nah,'” Aaron predicted.

The “Shrimp Cocktail” Disaster
Aaron’s prediction was completely accurate. Tina proved to be an impossible critic to please. Before Aaron even stepped into a custom bridal design, Tina surveyed the pre-pulled dresses and bluntly stated, “I don’t like none of the four for her. None of them… it’s not wowing me yet.”
The tension peaked when the expert bridal consultant put Aaron in a stunning lace mermaid gown from the Mark Zunino collection. Aaron loved the premium bridal design, hoping the unique cascading beading would win over her tough crowd.
When she stepped out of the private bridal suite, her mother-in-law delivered a roast that went down in reality TV history.
“No way, no how,” Tina sneered, waving off the high-end wedding attire. “It’s very form-fitting, which I love, but then it just puckers out and fans like a shrimp cocktail!”
The room erupted into laughter, but the bride was completely defeated. “My mom says I look like a shrimp,” Aaron sighed. “Well, I thought I loved it, and then collectively all of you hate it. Firing squad.”
Finding The Million-Dollar Look
Realizing they needed to completely shift gears, the bridal fashion consultants brought out a voluminous Danielle Caprese ball gown featuring elegant Swarovski crystal beading and a classic sweetheart neckline. It was a departure from the mermaid style Aaron originally wanted, but she was desperate for her mother-in-law’s approval.
Before stepping out, Aaron joked with the consultants, “If they say anything, we’ll tackle them!” She felt like a “million bucks” in the elegant bridal dress, but the true test awaited outside the fitting room.
When the curtains opened, the reaction was instantaneous.

The Mother-in-Law Seal of Approval
The notoriously tough Tina literally gasped. “She looks stunning in it from top to bottom,” Tina beamed. “That is the perfect woman for my son.”
The relief washed over Aaron immediately. “Finally, my mother-in-law is on board. I am so relieved. It’s a million pounds off of my shoulders,” she smiled. With the “shrimp cocktail” disaster far behind them, Aaron happily said “Yes” to the $7,600 designer wedding gown.
It proves that even if you have a Miss USA crown on your head, nothing beats the feeling of getting the ultimate seal of approval from a tough mother-in-law on your wedding day outfit!
